How to Get My Life Together: 6 Easy Steps

1. ASSESS Your Life

Evaluate your current situation and different areas of your life – career, relationships, health, finances, etc.

Start by taking inventory of all aspects of your life, including your finances, career, relationships, health and overall well-being.

Write down all the stuff that’s bothering you and figure out what you can actually do something about. Stop worrying about stuff you can’t change, focus on the things you can make better. Trust me, some things in life you just can’t fix.

So, be completely real and honest with yourself as you evaluate every area of your life.

Are you in debt? Do you have a job? Are you making enough of a living wage? Do you want more? Or do you need help with your finances?

Do you have your finances in order but have neglected the rest of your life? Do you want to build relationships with family and friends again?

Are you happy in your relationship? Are you in a relationship? Do you want a relationship? Are you lonely?

Are you happy with your overall well-being? Have you been taking care of yourself? Do you want to get healthier physically, mentally or both?

2. IDENTIFY Areas That Need Improvement

To get your life together means identifying the areas that need the most improvement.

Now that you’ve got all your thoughts and feelings down on paper, it’s time to figure out what areas of your life need some work. Don’t dwell on past things you can’t control. Focus on what you can do to grow and be happy right now.

Write down some specific goals you want to accomplish.

Try breaking down your goals into specific areas that need improvement and come up with a plan to tackle them one by one. It might also be helpful to reach out to a professional, like a therapist or financial advisor, or even a trusted friend for some guidance and support.

Just know that once you start making positive changes, you’ll be on your way to a more fulfilling and balanced life. It just takes it one step at a time.

When I first started out in life, I always felt like I was falling behind financially. I had a few lazy years where I didn’t work as hard as I should have to make money. It was tough not to dwell on it, but the best thing I did was to simply make a change. I started taking action and getting busy. Once I started making progress in my life, I forgot all about the past and began to see improvements. It felt good to keep moving forward.

4. PRIORITIZE Your Goals

To get your life together means prioritizing your goals.

The best thing to do is prioritize your list of goals based on their importance and urgency. Some will be short-term and some will be long-term goals. Still focus on the key goals that you want to work on right away.

5. CREATE a Routine and Take Action

Create a routine and take action means scheduling your goals into your week.

Break down your goals into more manageable tasks or actions that you can work on weekly and make a schedule to dedicate specific times during your day and week to work on them. This could be early mornings, lunch breaks, or even before bed. All these little moments throughout your day will help you with you get your life together.

6. ACCOMPLISH a Goal, and REPEAT!

After achieving a goal, don’t wait like some people until New Year’s to set new resolutions. Instead, set a new goal right away. Chances are, you already have something in mind that you want to accomplish next as you continue on your journey.

For instance, my initial goals were to live frugally in order to save up for a house, a car, and to be debt-free. However, I soon found myself becoming fixated on achieving more and more. My husband and I ended up building a substantial amount of equity, which allowed us to build a fourplex apartment, and then another, and another, until we owned a total of 52 units. We even ventured into acquiring almost 100 life leases. The point I’m trying to make is that the possibilities for setting and achieving goals are endless as long as you continue to push yourself and stay motivated.

Stay consistent and stay positive. Remember that change takes time and effort.

Celebrate your small victories along the way, and don’t let others bring you down. I’ve always been the odd one out. People might gossip about you or express concern, but if you’re truly pursuing something you love, go for it!

Just keep pushing forward and believe in yourself. That’s what it takes ‘to get my life together’.
