8 Tips for Routines in the Morning: My Stress Free and Productive Routine
1. The best morning routine would include a good night’s sleep
-It’s important to try to go to bed at the same time each night for consistency.
-Create a routine at bedtime to help signal your body that it’s time for bed. Things like a warm bath, reading a book or listening to relaxing sleep music or even a podcast. Try relaxation techniques like deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation or meditation.
-Remember to turn off your electronics at least one hour before bed so the blue light emitted from your devices doesn’t disrupt your sleep cycle.
-Avoid caffeine. It can interrupt a good night’s sleep as well.
-Make sure your bedroom and bed are comfortable and inviting. Having a good mattress, pillows, and high-quality bedding can really make a difference in getting a good night’s sleep.
2. Plan your day the evening before
-I’ve noticed that when I take the time to plan out my day the night before, it really helps me clear my mind and unwind. Knowing what to expect the next day allows me to fully relax. On the other hand, if I don’t plan ahead, I end up going to bed feeling frazzled, stressed, and worried about how the day will unfold.
-If you’re anything like me, make sure to create your to-do list the night before.
-Make sure to prioritize your most important tasks by placing them at the top of your list. This will help you stay focused and organized.
3. Wake up without pressing the snooze button!
-It’s crucial to wake up at the same time every morning to maintain consistency. Just a few extra minutes in bed can snowball into a delay that throws off your entire day, leaving you feeling rushed and setting a negative tone for the rest of the day.
-Personally, I would give yourself at least one hour in the morning before the time you have to start your day.
-I always keep a cozy robe at the end of my bed so I can put it on in the morning and stay warm when I wake up. To make waking up easier, try thinking outside the box. Setting your coffee maker to turn on automatically at a certain time can help. The smell of coffee in the morning is the best if you’re a coffee lover like me.
4. Have a nutritious breakfast and your favourite brew
-I enjoy starting my day by lounging in my cozy housecoat and slippers, savoring a delicious and nutritious breakfast of toast with natural peanut butter or homemade chia seed pudding. It’s so good!
-These moments are all mine during this time of day. I enjoy being by myself, lost in my own thoughts. I like to keep a positive and mindful mindset, staying present and fully aware of the day ahead. Take a few moments to reflect on the present day and where your focus should be.
I find this practice incredibly helpful because I wear so many hats each day (metaphorically speaking). I juggle being a business owner, interacting with tenants, working my nursing job, being a wife, managing renovations and cleaning, handling book work, and blogging… the list goes on and on! I have to remind myself to slow down, even though it’s not really in my nature. I thrive on being busy, but not too busy.
-After I finish my coffee and start feeling more awake, I always reach for a glass of fresh water. Staying hydrated with a nice, cold glass of water is so refreshing.
5. Exercise for your health
-I enjoy starting my day with a morning stretch routine. When I was younger, I used to go for a run and then shower before work. However, since I injured my back, I’ve had to change things up. Now, I focus on exercises that support my back health. This could be a quick yoga session or a walk outside. Exercise not only boosts energy levels but also improves mood. That’s why I recommend it to everyone, even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day.
6. Complete your hygiene routine
-In my younger years, my hygiene routine was pretty basic – just brushing my teeth, washing my face, and throwing on some comfy clothes. I’ve never bothered with make-up, however as I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that I don’t look as bright and awake as I used to. So, I’ve started wearing a little bit of makeup to help me feel more put together.
-I’ve never owned nice clothing until lately. I’m completely a crazy saver and investor. I made a promise to myself years ago that I would only start buying better clothes and nice things once my money started making money for me. So, recently I’ve been dressing in clothing I really love and buying beautiful lasting items, and I have to admit, it’s been a game changer! I love how I feel in clothing that fits well. It’s a confidence booster for sure! I highly recommend not waiting as long as I did to start investing in some quality pieces that boost your confidence, whether it’s beautiful clothing or make-up routines.
7. Fit in personal self-care
-In the morning, I consider my exercise routine, skin-care routine, and a calming cup of coffee as part of my self-care. If those things don’t relax you, find something that rejuvenates you, like journaling, listening to music, or reading. Sometimes the only quiet time we get is in the morning, so it’s important to find something that starts your day off right.
8. Finally, I review my schedule and to-do list I created for myself from the night before
– I like to stay focused and get started right away. Depending on the day, I might have my car packed with cleaning supplies for one of our apartments, gardening tools, or painting supplies. Other times, I could be at my nursing job or I’m at home doing bookwork, so I don’t always need to look my best to get things done. Regardless, I always have something planned for the day and I like to dive in as soon as possible.
– When I leave the house, I always make sure to remind myself to be patient and have a positive attitude. It’s not just about me – my mood can impact everyone around me too.
