By doing this, you’ll prevent grime from building up and keep your home looking and feeling fresh every day.
HABIT 3. Quick Declutter and Freshen Up
Before calling it a day, take a few minutes to tidy up and put things back where they belong. A simple fluff of your throw pillows and folding of blankets can instantly make your living space feel cozy and inviting again. Decluttering small areas daily prevents larger messes from piling up and makes tomorrow’s start feel like a fresh reset.
To make this habit even easier, designate clutter-free zones in your home, like the dining table, kitchen island, or bedside table. By keeping these areas off-limits to clutter, you can maintain a sense of order and avoid your home looking like total chaos.

A morning routine that’s realistic, productive, and stress-free is the key to tackling your day with mental clarity.
HABIT 4. Clean Up After Meals
Right after each meal, take a few minutes to load the dishwasher or wash dishes by hand. It only takes a few minutes, but by doing this right away it prevents dirty dishes from piling up and turning into a daunting task later.
Don’t forget to Wipe Down Kitchen Surfaces After Each Use. Countertops and stovetops are like magnets for crumbs and spills. Giving them a quick wipe after cooking will keep your kitchen looking fresh and tidy, along with keeping the pests away.
HABIT 5. Sweep or Vacuum High-Traffic Areas
Make it a habit to sweep or vacuum daily in busy areas like entryways, the kitchen, or the living room. This simple task helps control dirt and dust, keeping your home clean, especially in spots that get a lot of foot traffic. And, I find it oddly satisfying seeing those neat vacuum lines… recovering OCD cleaner here! haha
The secret to keeping it up? Ditch those awkward vacuums with the massive hoses. Get yourself a strong, easily accessible vacuum that’s always ready for action. Yes, they’re pricey—I had to plan for mine by asking for it as a Christmas gift—but let me tell you, I don’t regret it for a second. Worth. Every. Penny!

I got this for Christmas a couple of years ago, and it’s fantastic! The suction is incredible, and I love the light detect feature. Honestly, it’s easier vacuuming in the dark because the light helps me spot all the dust. Something about watching the floor go from dusty to spotless in seconds makes cleaning feel weirdly satisfying a bit more rewarding!
The other tool I rely on regularly is a simple Swiffer. It’s much faster than even pulling out the vacuum. When the floors aren’t too dirty, I like to do a quick sweep with the Swiffer to pick up surface dust and cat hair, then follow up with the vacuum to suck up all the dirt I just collected. It’s an easy way to keep things tidy without too much hassle. I highly recommend it.
I’ve been using this Swiffer for years now, but unfortunately, the canister that holds the solution started leaking, so I don’t bother with it anymore. Besides, whether it’s wet or dry, I figure I’m just spreading dirt around using a Swiffer anyway. So, when it’s time for a major floor clean, I skip the Swiffer and go straight to my mop.

Bathroom counters can quickly turn into a chaotic mess of toothpaste splatters and hair ties. I like to take a quick look daily before deciding whether it needs a quick wipe down.
If your bathroom is a high-traffic area, a quick clean of the sink, mirror, and toilet might be needed every day.
It’s a small task that keeps the space tidy and guest-ready, making it one of the best habits for a consistently clean home.
HABIT 7. Take Out the Trash
Regularly emptying the trash is extremely important in preventing odours and spills from ruining your clean home vibe. It’s a simple routine, but it makes a big difference in keeping your house smelling fresh.
Trust me, as a landlord, I’ve seen it all, and if the trash isn’t taken out often enough, those odours can start seeping into your kitchen wood cupboards—and once that happens, it’s nearly impossible to get rid of the smell. If you’re fully digital like I am, make sure to scan and store any paperwork that needs to be kept. I also use a binder system, organizing by the 12 months of the year. Anything that needs attention gets placed in the binder under the appropriate month. For digital bills, I save a copy to my Google Drive and add it to my online budget right away. These habits not only keep your home tidy but also prevent paper and digital clutter from taking over!
HABIT 9. Do a Load of Laundry
Incorporating a load of laundry into your daily cleaning routine can save you from facing an intimidating mountain of clothes by the end of the week. To make the process smoother, try sorting your clothes as you go—no more guessing what’s clean or dirty. Staying on top of this habit keeps the laundry pile manageable. And don’t forget the folding! As tempting as it is to live out of laundry baskets, take the extra time to fold and put clothes away promptly. Your future self will thank you when you’re not digging through a wrinkled mess every morning. Plus, there’s something so satisfying about perfectly folded clothes, isn’t there?
HABIT 10. Organize Your Entryway
The dreaded entryway. I hate cleaning it, but a cluttered entryway can leave a bad first impression. By keeping shoes, coats, and bags organized, you can maintain a welcoming and orderly space.
Try installing hooks or a small coat rack for hanging jackets, bags, and hats, and consider a shoe rack or tray for footwear. A small bench with storage underneath can help with additional seating and hidden storage space for gloves, scarves, or pet leashes. Use a decorative bowl or wall-mounted organizer for keys, mail, and other small essentials to prevent clutter.
Don’t forget to regularly declutter by putting away off-season items and reminding family members to place their belongings in designated spots. Lastly, a small rug or mat can help catch dirt from shoes, keeping the area cleaner and easier to maintain.
