What Is Intentional Living? A Beginner’s Guide to a More Meaningful Life

Intentional living isn’t about doing less. It’s about doing more of what matters to you. It’s choosing the things that give you energy and saying no to the things that drain you. At the end of the day, it’s about creating a life that feels like yours — not one built on everyone else’s expectations.

This is a very simple beginners guide to get you started…

What Does Intentional Living Mean?

Intentional living means being present and making choices that line up with your values. It’s about choosing on purpose instead of running on autopilot. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Knowing what matters most to you — family, creativity, health, adventure, or whatever lights you up.
  • Building your days around those priorities instead of squeezing them in as an afterthought.
  • Letting go of the noise and focusing on what brings you joy and fulfillment.

In short? It’s about creating space for what makes you feel alive.

How to Live More Intentionally (Without Overthinking It)

You don’t need a perfect routine or a giant self-help book to start. Just start small:

  • Start where you’re at — not where you think you should be.
  • Pause before you say yes — ask yourself, “Does this line up with what I care about? Do I even want to do this?”
  • Simplify your schedule — cut out the things that waste your time or only exist to keep other people happy.
  • Add more of the good stuff — morning coffee, evening walks, strumming your guitar, baking something sweet, or riding a motorcycle (yes, my current favorite!). The point is simple: do more of whatever makes you feel grounded, present, and fully alive.
  • Check in with yourself — ask: “Does this feel good? Is it fun? Relaxing? Am I loving this?”

Remember, intentional living doesn’t have a finish line or a final destination. It’s an ongoing practice of progress and enjoyment.

Why It Feels So Good

Living intentionally brings clarity, purpose and peace to life. It helps you:

  • Lower stress by cutting out what doesn’t matter or eliminating unnecessary obligations.
  • Boost joy by making room for what does truly matter to you.
  • Build confidence by making choices that align with your authentic self.
  • Connect deeper with people who share your values.

It’s like decluttering your mind and the stuff you don’t want to do and making room for the good stuff.

Intentional living isn’t about slowing down for the sake of it. It’s about making room for more of what you want — more joy, more peace, more connection, and more YOU!

So, take a moment to breathe, reflect, and ask yourself: What would it look like if I lived more intentionally today?
