An effortless, comforting bread machine recipe for baking warm, homemade bread with almost zero hands-on time.

There is something grounding about the ritual of baking bread—the way the scent slowly fills the house, turning an ordinary morning into something entirely slow and intentional. It’s all about embracing a bit of warm minimalism in your everyday routine, and letting simple, comforting habits anchor your space. But let’s be honest: kneading dough by hand doesn’t always fit into a busy week.
This effortless bread machine recipe is my favourite shortcut to a golden, comforting loaf with almost zero hands-on effort. It delivers that bakery-fresh warmth right at home, letting the machine do the heavy lifting so you can focus on the rest of your day.
The Details
- Prep time: 5 minutes
- Cycle time: Approx. 2 hours
- Yield: 1 loaf
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp soft butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ½ tbsp white sugar
- 3 cups bread flour or regular
- 2 tsp yeast
Instructions
Layer the Ingredients: Add the ingredients in the exact order listed above to your bread maker pan. Break the butter into small pieces so it blends seamlessly with the warm water and olive oil.
Select Your Settings: Select the basic/white bread setting. Choose the 2 lb loaf size and your preferred crust colour.
Cool & Slice: When baking is complete, remove the loaf from the bread pan immediately. Let it cool completely on a wire rack for at least 15 to 30 minutes before slicing to set the crumb.
Notes
Yeast flexibility: Active dry, instant yeast, and bread machine yeast can all be used interchangeably in a bread maker. Bread machines are designed to use any of these without having to proof them first. Do not proof yeast prior to adding it to the bread pan for this recipe.
