Simple Strawberry Banana Yogurt Bowl

A cozy breakfast post about finding joy in simple routines, fresh summer strawberries, and the little moments that make ordinary mornings feel special.

I’ve been eating a yogurt bowl every morning lately.

Partly because I’m trying to make a few healthier choices without turning every meal into a sad little “diet food” situation. Yogurt is actually a pretty simple way to add protein to breakfast, and Harvard’s Nutrition Source has a nice overview of the benefits. But mostly because they’re easy, they taste good, and I haven’t reached the I never want to see yogurt again stage yet.

This morning’s version was strawberries, banana, Greek yogurt, a little vanilla yogurt, almonds, and walnuts—basically whatever I reached for while standing in the kitchen half awake, waiting for my coffee to finish brewing.

My Strawberry Banana Yogurt Bowl

If you like tracking calories, here’s what ended up in my bowl:

356 calories

  • 160g plain Oikos Greek yogurt
  • 40g vanilla Activia yogurt
  • 70g fresh strawberries
  • 44g banana
  • 5g almonds
  • 10g walnuts

And, of course, coffee on the side.

Extra cream.

No regrets.

Speaking of strawberries…

Why Do Summer Strawberries Taste Approximately 700% Better in August?

I bought some in February once, and I’m convinced they were just crunchy water pretending to be fruit. Summer strawberries are an entirely different experience. They’re sweet, juicy, and actually smell like strawberries before you even take the first bite.

It’s one of those little reminders that some things really are worth waiting for.

The Grocery Store Effect

While we’re talking about food, can we also talk about grocery stores?

I can walk in with a carefully planned list, fully committed to sticking to it, and somehow still leave wondering where half my grocery budget disappeared.

I’ll stand there debating whether I really need something practical, then casually toss a bag of chips or a seasonal sparkling water into my cart without a second thought.

Apparently that’s just part of being an adult now.

Meanwhile, Vanilla Bean…

Vanilla Bean couldn’t have been less interested in any of it.

She spent the morning stretched out in her favourite patch of sunshine by the patio door, completely unbothered by grocery budgets, calories, or the fact that bananas seem to skip right over “perfectly ripe” and head straight to “banana bread.”

Honestly, she might have life figured out.

Maybe Life Doesn’t Need Optimizing

Lately I’ve been realizing that not every positive change has to be dramatic.

Social media has a way of making it feel like we’re always supposed to be optimizing something—our routines, our homes, our habits, our mornings.

But maybe life doesn’t become better because we overhaul everything.

Maybe it becomes better because we start paying attention.

To breakfasts that actually make us excited to sit down.

To coffee made exactly the way we like it.

To strawberries that finally taste like summer.

To the warm patch of sunlight on the kitchen floor.

To the quiet moments that would have passed us by if we’d been rushing.

Maybe That’s the Point

Maybe that’s all “romanticizing your life” really is.

Not spending more.

Not doing more.

Just noticing more.

And I think ordinary Tuesday mornings deserve that as much as vacations do.

P.S. If you’ve discovered the secret to keeping bananas perfectly ripe for longer than six hours, I would genuinely love to hear it.
